March 20, 2013 - 80 hopeful engineers and security specialists gathered together in New York City to meet Symantec’s latest Cyber Readiness Challenge. Symantec has hosted these events in Chicago, Toronto and Mountain View, California. Groups get together to talk security, compare approaches, and generally analyze and expand their ability to defend against today’s security threats.

The Challenge itself is a “capture-the-flag” game, wherein security engineers taking turns attacking and defending simulated data centers. It’s a great, collaborative way to develop skills and greater knowledge. We love sharing our experience and helping organizations learn to better secure themselves. But what really got us into security is something simpler: we love winning.

Sure, we like bragging. But we really do think this kind of competition is immeasurably valuable. Security is a constant interaction between offense and defense. Competitions like Symantec’s Cyber Readiness Challenge don’t just teach technique, they develop the necessary mindset for security.

CRN.com names Janice Newlon to it’s 2012 list of accomplished women in the IT industry.

Santa Barbara, CA, July 31, 2011 – Novacoast Inc, a professional services and product development company, today announced that Janice Newlon, Novacoast CFO has been recognized by UBM Channel’s CRN Magazine as one of the Women of the Channel in 2012. Honorees in CRN’s 2012 Women of the Channel list have made a name for themselves as influential leaders within their own company, and the IT channel as a whole.

Executives on the list were selected by the editors of CRN Magazine based on nominations and applications from a field of vendor channel organizations, distributors and solution providers. Criteria for selection was based on the role each applicant played over the past year in driving revenue for their company and the steps they’ve taken to evangelize the importance of the IT channel.

Novacoast Again Named Among Top Service Providers by Everything Channel

For the second year in a row, Novacoast has been recognized by Everything Channel as part of CRN Magazine’s annual Solution Provider 500 (Formerly the VAR500) list, which ranks the top technology integrators in North America. Featuring the highest producing technology integrators and solution provider organizations in the IT channel, the Solution Provider 500 rankings consider earnings from hardware sales, software sales and managed IT services. Novacoast placed at #339 in the 18th annual ranking, up nearly 100 spots from #420 in 2011.

The Solution Provider 500 ranking is based on revenue size, and considers each company’s forward-thinking approach to the channel. In particular, the Solution Provider 500 selection panel sought to recognize companies that are building out practices around the data center and virtualization while offering software integration and application development skills. Revenue size is determined by the amount of annual products and services sold over the course of 2011. Companies with no public documentation were required to submit a notarized affidavit attesting to their 2010 and 2011 revenues.

Since its inception in 1996, Novacoast has grown from a regional player in Southern California to an international company with 150 employees in 26 states. Novacoast’s revenue has been on a rapid rise since 2005 as revenue has climbed from $10 million a year in annual sales to over $40 million in 2011.

Novacoast’s Adam Gray Recognized By CRN As One Of The Top Channel Leaders Under 40.

It’s worth noting that Novacoast CTO Adam Gray’s command of the business technology market has earned him more than a reputation as an un-stump-able valut of answers to complicated IT problems among his colleagues, partners and customers. (Anyone with what they think is an un-answerable IT question is welcome to test him out) Recently, his uncanny mastery of the most complex corners of IT tech has been recognized by CRN magazine as being impressively out of proportion with his age.

Adam was recently named to CRN’s “30 in their 30s” list of top figures in the Chanel under 40, singled out particularly as an authority in the information security space. While we’re consistently impressed by his knowledge and knowhow, it’s nice to know he’s catching the eye of the industry as well.
